IntelMS (Pty) Ltd, the company behind the Bluebird suite of medical products as well as the Blackbird radiology products has several divisions:
South African doctors have trusted Bluebird since the early nineties, when we became the first vendor to provide a PMS (and an EMR) that ran on Windows. Even in those early days our medical software ran on both Windows and Apple and today we actively develop for Windows 7, Apple's OSX, the iPhone and iPad. Our support team regularly get kudos from happy practitioners. More than 35% of doctors in private practice in South Africa are signed up Bluebird doctors.
Our medical data exchange has been particularly successful in facilitating secure document exchange between South Africa's medical practitioners (see the image at www.intelms.com ). Since 1997 we have moved labs [more than 50 million lab tests], radiology reports, referral notes and consultation reports without a single lost report or a single security breach. We are the only service that aggregates lab data from all SA pathology labs (including the NHLS) into a common channel and then displays that data in useful ways (tables, flow sheets, graphs) which enables doctors to quickly assess a patient's labs over time and identify critical trends.
In 2008 we added a radiology division (see www.radiology.co.za ) which not only offers an advanced and comprehensive RIS PACS, but it also facilitates the electronic exchange of images between any radiology practice and any South African doctor.
Currently our focus is the Bluebird Intelligent Hospital System (IHS), an advanced service that manages clinical data and work flow on hospital wards. The BBIC (infection control) module is particularly exciting because of its ability to dramatically improve morbidity and mortality in hospitals while at the same time controlling costs. The Bluebird IHS automates discharge summaries which keep the GP in the treatment loop.
IntelMS (Pty) Ltd is privately owned and began life in 2000 as a joint venture between the Datatec subsidiary Korbitec, and a medical IT company founded by a medical doctor in 1994. The IntelMS pedigree boasts some real South African IT heavyweights including the founders of the Internet Africa service as well as a broad range of medical experience (Academic, GP, Specialist).
The Bluebird Hub has a data center in the IS building in Cape Town and the support and software engineers work from offices in Hout Bay (which are not open to the public). Management is housed in Mowbray and we use Regus for meeting rooms throughout Southern Africa. We also own and manage radiology image servers in the US and Europe.
