Intelligent Medical Systems (IMS) has been serving the South African medical community since 1999 when IMS started life in South Africa as a Datatec subsidiary called Korbimed (Pty) Ltd.

Korbimed was a joint venture between the team behind Internet Africa, the largest ISP in Africa in the nineties, and Dr. Darryl Vine’s EHR company, GAEA Medical Software which was formed in 1994. By the late nineties our integration hub was moving 80% of the total electronic lab traffic to individual doctors in Southern Africa. Our Datatec pedigree gave IMS the industrial capability to run large medical datacenters, which today, translates into the Bluebird Private and Public Clouds.

Korbimed had been founded to solve the problem of patient confidentiality when moving laboratory results over the Internet and protection of personal information remains a dominant focus of IMS. Please see intelms.com/1i

Dr. Darryl G Vine was the founding Medical Director of Korbimed and, from inception, his team has ensured that IMS products are fundamentally designed to augment clinical workflows and improve clinician safety and efficiency.

In 2000, after a management buyout, the company name was changed to IntelMS (for Intelligent Medical Systems) Pty Ltd, which, after a protracted legal challenge from Intel Corporation, was renamed Intelligent Medical Systems (Pty) Ltd.

Intelligent Medical Systems (Pty) Ltd. Has been financially viable for more than 20 years and has no debt.
